NEW : The DRT clutch basket kit now includes a gasket surface area spacer, a special washer, specially produced clutch separator plates and - somke of the basket - also the right clutches plates. As a result you now receive a lot more parts for just a little more money.
After the lads at Denis Racing Team (DRT) had successfully optimised the small frame motors clutch, they decided to turn their attention to the clutch of the large frame motor. Along with the large frame motors gearing cogs that they are already known for, they now have a precision CNC milled clutch basket in production for the large frame VESPA models.
Nightmare situations such as clutch baskets ripping or flying open at high speed become a thing of the past with this type of clutch conversion kit, so illuminating the need for the original clutch baskets having to be strengthened or reinforced. The usual spring cups are replaced with recesses in the clutch basket itself and due to the increased space within the basket, 4 thick, or even 5 thinner clutch friction plates can be fitted within the assembly. The use of high end materials coupled with the usual exacting DRT production standards are a guarantee for a high quality clutch system, more than up to the job! A new clutch holding nut and safety cage washer are included with this clutch conversion kit. Some clutch covers may need slight modification for safe and enduring use of this clutch assembly. In some cases the use of a clutch cover gasket surface area spacer may also be necessary.
Conclusion: Well thought out efficient solution from DRT and a more than adequate alternative to the COSA II clutches.
SIP-TIP: Do not forget to order suitable clutch friction and separator plates and springs of varying strengths for experimentation with different clutch assembly setups. A strengthened clutch basket assembly circlip is an absolute must with this type of clutch conversion. To align the clutch cog exactly with the primary drive assembly a spacer/washer is also produced by DRT and available at our store (part no 11351930). To make sure the whole assembly all remains attached to the crankshaft we also recommend the improved clutch holding nut, also produced by DRT (part no 11351940)
