When working on a smallframe engine you can rapidly reach certain limits when it comes to the carburettor as the original DELL'ORTO SHB 16-20 carburettors are not sufficient for supplying a tuned engine with the larger amount of fuel charge. Converting to a more powerful reed valve system is often the only alternative. To do this, however, the engine requires a major overhaul and once they are complete, the changes to the crankcases cannot be reversed. The SPORT/RACE intake manifolds for the disc valves are often an elegant plan B as they offer the possibility of replacing the original DELL‘ORTO SHB with a more high performance tuning carburettor with an outlet of up to 36mm.

 

We stock the SPORT intake manifolds for >20mm disc valves both from POLINI and from MALOSSI. The POLINI range includes both an intake manifold for the DELL’ORTO PHBL 24 (with plug connection and 2 or 3 hole attachment), and also for the DELL‘ORTO PHBH 28/30 (with rubber connection) suitable for the V50-125/PV/ET3 chassis with the original 2 hole or 3 hole PK engine. MALOSSI rounds off the offer with intake manifolds for the DELL‘ORTO PHBL 24/25 (with rubber connection) and the DELL‘ORTO PHBL 24 (with plug connection). The MALOSSI intake manifolds are available for both the old smallframe models with 2 holes and for the newer PK models with 3 hole attachment. Those who want the maximum should ride with the corresponding cross sections.

 

The PARMAKIT RACE intake manifold for disc valves has an excellent 34mm outlet providing the ideal basis for carburettors >28mm. LAURO CAFFORIO also offers a powerful intake manifold with a 36mm internal diameter for its FALC disc valve cylinder kit. This is perfect for ensuring the engine can breathe properly and making sure it is supplied with enough fuel charge. The frame opening should also be enlarged due to the diameter of the intake tube.

 

Conclusion: "It doesn't always have to be a reed valve kit. A disc valve engine can also provide a great performance with a correspondingly sized carburettor."

 

SIP-TIP: Order the connection rubber at the same time. Ram Air filters (e.g. part no 40391000) are the perfect add-on.
