The 'Midrange' exhaust system produced by LTH is, as its name suggests, conceived to cover the performance gap left between their 'Road' and 'Race' orientated pipes. In contrast to their 'Race' exhaust, which mobilises all potential horses available across the whole rev-range, the 'Midrange' has a less brutal power delivery with an only slightly lower maximum power output. The pre-power band performance is actually higher than that produced by the 'Race' version, making it the first choice for ESC competitors and all road-going touring set ups requiring generous doses of power while out and about! The flange on the manifold is fully compatible for use with the suitable POLINI, MALOSSI and also QUATTRINI M1 'L' and 'R' type cylinders. 2009 saw the people at LTH assemble and enter a racing scooter with a QUATTRINI M 1 'L' cylinder fitted with their 'Midrange' exhaust system, resulting in an overall third placing in class 2! The 'Midrange', in combination with a QUATTRINI M 1 'L' V 2009 cylinder (modified with an 185° exhaust port-timing) is capable of producing at least 27PS. Considering the rpm and performance figures alone, the 'Midrange' performs slightly better than the 'Franz' system but is not as powerful as the 'Race' version.
Optimal exhaust port-timings for the LTH PX systems :
'Midrange' – Between 180° and 190°.
This exhaust system is available with either an aluminium or carbon-fibre bodied silencer unit and all fixings are included in the delivery.
This exhaust type is also known as the 'RX-1'.
In a direct comparison with various similar exhaust systems such as the LTH 'Race', FALC, S&S, PARMAKIT and 'Bertha' types (in combination with a PARMAKIT cylinder) the 'Midrange' appears mid-field, offering sufficient torque at lower revs, excellent throttle response throughout the rev-range combined with a respectably high overall power-output. The aggressively tuned system produced by FALC remains the top of the tree as far as pure power output figures indicate, but their system operates within a rev-range more suited to a racing environment, along with a very narrow power-band. The 'Midrange' on the other hand has a more gentle power delivery making it predesignated for employment on ESC machines, where steady acceleration from the corners and curves is advantageous when more 'passing power' is required. The LTH 'Race' exhaust is not compatible with the PARMAKIT cylinder as it requires more radical exhaust port-timing.
Providing a tested 28.3 PS at 9000 rpm and 21.6 PS at 8000 rpm, while mounted on a PARMAKIT cylinder, makes this exhaust pipe a real contender for inclusion in your high-end set up.
Conclusion : The 'Midrange' is capable of tickling all remaining power reserves, in an extremely useful manner, from virtually any modified high-end performance cylinder.
Race exhaust / steel or stainless steel construction / clear lacquer or black heat-resistant paint / aluminium or carbon-fibre silencer body / left-hand exit (plain or curly versions).
Black-painted steel or polished and clear lacquered stainless steel main body, aluminium or carbon-fibre (except on the curly version) silencer body, available as 'plain' or 'curly' with a left-hand exit, remember to check and adjust both the jetting and the ignition before use!
SIP-TIP : The 'Midrange' exhaust combines especially well with the 133cc POLINI cylinder (with a 2mm thick cylinder gasket surface spacer) together with a MAZZUCHELLI race crankshaft, a POLINI 25mm reed valve kit, a MMW cylinder head and a 27 toothed overall gear ratio with a 25/26 gear-cog. Nevertheless, this pipe also provides the ideal partner in power combined with the cylinders produced by QUATTRINI, PARMAKIT, etc.
