FRANZ, JONAS and BIG BERTHA sounds like a start to a good fairytale. The reason why Mathias from LUDWIG & SCHERER chose these names for the exhausts in this range remain a mystery. One fact is sure though and that is that FRANZ, JONAS, BIG BERTHA and the 55''curly expansion chambers have had fairytale success, made in Germany.

 

All of the exhausts have been developed on the race track and optimised through many dyno' testing sessions. As a consequence most current small frame motor tuning cylinder set-ups can be completed using one of these exhaust systems. The FRANZ exhaust has been first choice for most cylinder kits for many years. It is especially suited to riders using POLINI/POLINI Evo cylinders in their small frame motor set-ups. It is most effective in releasing power reserves between the port timings of 185° and 190° from the small frame motors. Over 20 ps are usually possible. The power is harmoniously delivered over a wide engine revolution range.

 

The BIG BERTHA is designed for all modern cylinders with bridged exhaust ports such as the POLINI Evo or the PARMAKIT 09. Drivability and a wide power band were the desired parameters during its design. It is therefore ideal for either road or race tuning projects. The FRANZ and BIG BERTHA expansion chamber exhaust systems are both available in curly or left hand exit versions fitting the ET3 and, after minor frame modification also the PK models.

 

The 55'' curly exhaust has enjoyed great success on the carting race circuits in combination with the FALC cylinder kits. Early and drivable power delivery with generous amounts of torque.

 

The JONAS system is a tried and tested classic choice in combination with all reverse-mounted (180° rotated) cylinder kits and especially suited to the PK model setups. The kickstarter may need modification before you fit this exhaust. All of these expansion chamber exhaust systems are produced in high quality and with minimal construction tolerances.

 

Conclusion: Suitable weaponry for every type of cylinder setup. Perfect for ambitioned small frame motor tuning setups.

SIP-TIP: Using the FRANZ system in combination with a heavily ported barrel such as the 133cc Polini, the 136cc Malossi or the QUATTRINI M1L and appropriate peripheral equipment (long-stroke-crankshaft, 30 mm carburettor, V-force reed-valve etc.) more than 25 ps can be realised at the back wheel. His partners in this range of expansion chambers are also more than capable of power outputs up to 30 ps and even beyond.

 

GSF User Gammel (about art. no.: 22017000): Volume is ok, quieter than the POLINI, especially at tickover.

 

Stoffi, STOFFI-SIP Racing Team 2011 (about art. no.. 22017300 ): “We use the BERTHA on our 2011 POLINI Evo scooter. Our Markus flew to second place in the French GP race on it. This item takes off, crazy piece of kit.”
