Racing Cylinder D.R. 85cc

for Vespa 50/PK50/S/XL/XL2,

The APE belongs to Italy, like tuning to Vespa. Originally designed for the APE load-pulling trike, this DR cylinder also fits all 50cc Vespas.

This powerful cylinder is distinguished by an independent layout with squared outlet and more relaxed port timings. Torque from low revolutions, ideal for making good time on the road. With this cylinder, however, the transmission must be adjusted. The DR racing cylinder scores more with its torque and power from low down than with revs.

In addition, all DR cylinders are painted black for protection against corrosion and for better dissipation of heat. Anyone who would like a bit more can modify the outlet and give it a more trapezoid shape.

Conclusion: Ideal cylinder for relaxed cruising, high torque for 2-person use, suitable for long routes at full throttle. The primary should always be adjusted, however.

 

Cast iron/ 50mm bore/ 3 transfer ports/ 84.43cc

Cast iron cylinder, stroke 43mm, 3 transfer ports, pistons with 2 piston rings and plane piston head, rectangular exhaust with a width of 26mm (chord dimensions), 6mm exhaust studs, original DR cylinder head included in delivery, compression 10.7:1, incl. gasket set. Jets should be adjusted. Fits all Vespa 50/PK/XL/XL2 models, except PK automatic. Transfer ports match the originlas, casing must not be modified

 

SIP-TIP: Adjusting  the main jet and a new spark plug is a must. Altering the transmission is a must here, min. a 3.72 primary, max. 3.00. The engine can be made even sportier with 16/ 16 carburettor, original exhaust with a wider manifold or the SITO banana.

“Long-lasting cylinder which, in my opinion, drives best with a Dell'Orto 19.19, a 2.86 transmission. A 3.00 transmission is also okay, more air flow, but then at the final speed the cylinder is put under somewhat more strain than with the 2.86. I still have the chrome banana fitted.”
